Ever dream of visiting
South America and
seeing it's native cactus
habitats? Well the San Diego
Cactus and Succulent Society
has a treat
for you
on Saturday, March 8th at
1:00pm in room 101 of the Casa Del
Prado Building in Balboa Park. In addition to our normal cactus
and
succulent festivities, we will be hosting two gentlemen with two
distinct presentations on cactus habitats in
South America:
* Paul Klaussen from
UK has been travelling
through
Chile on
something David Hunt coined a "Copiapoathon", and is just
finishing
up a brief tour of Baja California. Paul assures us that while
many
of our members may be well familiar with many of the Copiapoa
sites
in
Chile, "I believe that
I can come up with things that they are
unlikely to have seen: such as Humboldt Penguins nesting between
stems of Eulychnia and some rare in habitat plants such as
Eriosyce
aspilagaea and the new(ish) Echinopsis (Trichocereus) bolligeriana
as
well as some of the unusual shots of Copiapoa in habitat. The
2007
Copiapoathon Diaries are in the Copiapoathon section of my
website:
www.copiapoa.info
!" Paul's presentation will be mainly slides of
Chile, but may also
contain some shots of their recent trip into Baja!
* Mark Muridian from Fresno will be presenting his recently
completed
video from an expedition to
Bolivia titled "
Bolivia,
Gateway to the
Andean Cacti." Mark's presentations are always full of surprises
and
entertainment, a definite don't miss for anyone interested in
cacti,
cactus habitats,
south america, or any
combination therof!
Plant sales begin at
10:00am, meeting
begins promptly at
1:00pm,
presentations should be underway by 1:30. Bring your questions,
answers, enthusiasm, and inquisitiveness about succulent plants
to
Balboa Park
on Saturday, March 8th.
See you there!
